One of the most insane productions ever to hit the big screen, Roar is a comedy adventure set in Africa but the true madness lies in the production rather than the script. Directed by Noel Marshall and starring his wife, Tippi Hedren, stepdaughter, Melanie Griffith, and john's two sons, John and Jerry, this was a high profile Hollywood family making a labour of love. The background to the film lies in an African safari on which Noel and Tippi fell in love with the idea of making a film like Born Free but with more big cats. A lot more. 80 more. But they couldn't find enough animal trainers to control them so they elected to raise 80 lions, tigers and cheetahs on their own ranch so they would be used to human contact. This took eight years. Seriously. Then they started film production hoping that the cats wouldn't attack them. It didn't work. By the time they had finished 70 of the cast and crew had been hospitalised, some more than once, and over 100 injured. Health and safety at work clearly didn't exist in the 1970's. The result of all this is a film that every Hollywood producer, director, actor, cast and crew talk about in hushed tones as being a landmark in the field of cinematic disasters. Important for all the wrong reasons. This is a super rare UK quad poster from the first release in 1981, folded in excellent condition.
