A Jamaican film, starring reggae star Jimmy Cliff, that was ahead of its time and a landmark in the field of black film making. It is a love story, social commentary, political manifesto and comedy all rolled-in-one that is based upon a true story. First released in Jamaica in 1972, this film became one of the most successful films ever within the cult 'midnight movie' genre and is widely credited with launching reggae music into mainstream western culture.
