An important film on many levels, I am Curious Yellow was a Swedish film that will be remembered by many as the first mainstream film in the USA to show sexual intercourse. It was briefly banned in the USA but, in a landmark 1969 Supreme Court ruling, it was deemed not to be obscene because of the 'educational content'. In reality, it was an art house movie, not a a pornographic one, exploring themes of personal growth and sexual awakening in a pseudo documentary style. It gave birth to the 'white coat' genre of sexploitation movies in which a doctor (in a white coat) would provide an educational preamble to the film. After which they take their clothes off and have sex. There was also a companion film - I am Curious Blue - which explored political themes. This is from the first UK release in 1967, folded with tape marks and damage to the corners.
