Original Movie Poster - Queen (The)

Screen printed in very small numbers by the London College of Printing (LCP) for a private film club showing in 1970, this is an important poster for several reasons. The Queen is a 1968 documentary about drag queens in New York at a time when homosexuality was still illegal in the USA. Released the year before the Stonewall riots of 1969, which led to the establishment of the Gay Liberation Front and ultimately changed this law in 1980, their bravery in coming out like this is quite extraordinary. The film was a landmark for the LGBT community, then and now. This poster is a rare work from the LCP, a tremendously influential British artistic foundation. It's also a very early example of a film poster from the increasingly collectible 'mondo' film poster scene. Rolled in excellent condition with just a pinhole in each corner, this is the only one I've ever seen and, with a likely original production run of under fifty distributed to LCP students in 1970, it may well now be a one of a handful of survivors.
