Popular as one of the great Toho monsters among the likes of Godzilla and Mothra, the daikaiju Rodan arrived on the silver screen thanks to the famed director Ishiro Honda and stars Kenji Sahara, Yumi Shirakawa, and Haruo Nakajima as Rodan. Not just popular in its native Japan, Rodan broke sci-fi box office records for several theaters during its opening weekend in New York in 1957.
