Star Wars - 77/21-0 (style A proof)
Iconic artwork from Jung makes this the most famous poster for the ultimate sci-fi movie. Note that this is a super rare uncut printer's proof of the very first print run (reference 77/21-0) and one of the holy grails of posters for Star Wars collectors. Such was the success of the film, there were four different poster print runs in 1977 to meet demand from cinemas. The first run, and the most collectable by far, was reference 77/21-0 with later 1977 runs marked 77/21. What is a proof? During the original print set-up process, a few trial posters (proofs) would be run off and shown to the senior people to "OK" them. They would be "uncut" with the colour reference bars visible down the left hand margin. Then, once approved, the printer would print the full run of the posters. Typically, the proofs would be destroyed apart from a few reference copies. Not only is a printer's proof far more rare than a regular poster, but it is also 100% genuine, there is no fear of purchasing a reproduction. Note that this printer's proof came to light in 2000, from an employee who worked at the printer in 1977. Included in this find were eighteen examples of the style A "Star Wars" poster (with the original "77/21-0" NSS number). The posters were consigned to Bruce Hershenson for auction in 2000. The poster is rolled in superb condition.
