Way we live

About halfway through the Second World War in Britain, people started envisaging a brave new postwar world. "The Way We Live", made shortly after the war (1946), taps into this idealism. Written and directed by Jill Craigie, it was essentially a dramatised public information film about the reconstruction of a war torn Plymouth, the most badly damaged city in Britain. This was the film that brought Jill Craigie to the attention of the political establishment and, in particular, to Michael Foot, the man who was to become the leader of the Labour Party and her husband. The Jill Craigie cinema in Plymouth was named in her honour. This is a very, very rare copy of an important film. It requires some restoration but it should linen back beautifully for around £150 and look stunning.
