One of the best films of all time, Powell and Pressburger's multi-oscar winning adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's 'The Red Shoes' is astonishing on many levels. The ballet is superb, featuring some of the best dancers of the time, the cinematography was by the legendary Jack Cardiff and was storyline deceptively simple but multi-layered. This is a very rare large format poster from the 1948 first release in France, just after the end of the second world war. Very little paper of any kind survives from the immediate post-war austerity years because rationing reduced print runs and the paper recycling pulped almost everything after it had been used.
